| 7 October 2014

The most nutrient-dense, beneficial, juicy, medicinal and nutritious superfoods grow right by our side. Fact.

These foods start growing at the perfect time of the year to boost our immune systems too!

Think dandelions, nettles, sorrel, mushrooms, rosehip, hazelnuts, and many many more!

So what are you waiting for?

This week we are teaching you how to make a delicious rose-hip syrup/smoothie to rocket-fuel your immune system for winter. Grab a basket or a bag, go to your local park, forest, or a hedge and pick some of these beauties. They are free! Everything else is taken care of in a recipe below.

Rosehips (approx 1kg) – pick only ripe ones which are soft and easy to bite into to. Unripe rose-hips might cause irritation.

100ml of your favourite high-quality alcohol such as organic sake or vodka

1l of spring water

1 cup of rose water

1 cup of coconut sugar or maple syrup

Collect rose-hips of your choice. Put 1kg of rose-hips into a high-speed blender (such as Vitamix) with 1l of water and 100ml of your favourite alcohol to extract a full array of nutrients from the rose-hips.  Blend till all the rose-hips are broken open. Then transfer all the contents to a pot and warm to 60 degrees over low heat. Then transfer to blender once again and blend till the mix is as smooth as possible, then blend for another minute. Repeat as desired between blends and flame. The more you do it, the more goodness you will extract and the more intense the flavour will be.

Finally, add 1 cup of coconut sugar or maple syrup and blend again. Put the mix through a strainer or a nut-milk bag. Once strained, add 1 cup of rose water. Add more rose water/ spring water if the mix is too thick. Serve right away or bottle in glass jars and refrigerate.

Nutritional benefits:

Rose-hips are super packed with vitamin C – that is the best thing about it:). And you know how good NATURAL vitamin C is for you? On an energetic level it raises the vibration and elevates our mood, making us happier, more vital and alive. On a physical level, it gives a glow to our skin, eyes, hair, nails and inside our bodies it makes everything run nice-n-smooth, maintains healthy immune systems, and high levels of energy.

Want more? Rose-hips happen to contain 20 times more vitamin C than oranges, are excellent detoxifier, heals depression, supports healthy heart and blood. It is rumored that consuming rose-hip increases our lifespan. No wonder with all this vitamin C!

Convinced? We are:)
